The normalized difference vegetation ratio (NDVI) represents variations in the amount of green biomass and chlorophyll using only the red and near infrared bands (ASTER bands 2 and 3). The lowest values indicate soil, rocks and building materials, while the highest values indicate forest. Low to middle positive values indicate open grassy areas with patches of soil.
