The chart on the right shows Profile P5 as 5 (red) and P6 as 6 (khaki). The vertical exaggeration is about 4 times.

Locations are shown as colored dots in the map (upper left corner).

Northwest Locations C1 to C3

A terrace can be seen to the east of the road leading up the valley of the Sungai Keluang (Figure 1). Figure 2 shows the road at the top of the hill (34 meters). The turn-off ahead on the right leads to the higher terrace near the Equatorial Hotel. The road in Figure 3 passes behind the two large blocks shown in Figure 1. (The arrow in the enlargement of Figure 3 indicates the road.)

Northwest Location C4

Photos taken from a height of about 90 meters show what may be 30-meter and 60-meter terraces on the other side of the valley (Figures 4A and 4B). Figure 4B show how a land developer may have used land moving equipment to combine two terraces into one. Terraces in the distance appear be at 90 meters.

Northwest Location C5

The hillside cut by the profile was so wooded that it was not possible to see the landforms. The one-lane road wound up to 60 meters without revealing the terrace shown in Profile 6. The road stopped almost at the edge of the man-made cliff visible in Figures 5A and 5B. What is happening here is that the developer is preparing the site for a high-rise building. To do so on this site he is required by law to re-terrace all of the surrounding land to prevent landslides.

Northwest Location C6

At the base of the hill (Figure 6) the surface lies at 12±2 meters, as it does generally at the base of hills elsewhere in the study area. The road curves upward to the right.

General Comments

Profile 5 shows a terrace at 60 meters but none at 30 meters. I was able to measure the elevation of the road at 35 meters because the road runs the length of the terrace, whereas the profile cuts across it at its narrowest point.

Profile 6 shows a terrace at 45 meters, but I was not able to observe it because the area is wooded and difficult to access.
