Location A - North East

The chart on the right shows Profile P1 as 1 (green) and P2 as 2 (magenta). The vertical exaggeration is about 4 times.

Profiles A (GIF 9K)

Locations are shown as colored dots in the map (upper left corner).

Northeast Location A1

A new road runs north and south through the trough in P1 north of Location 1 on the map. The road curves between the two hills visible in Figure 1, forming a saddle. The apartment blocks stand on a terrace at about 30 meters elevation.

Northeast Location A2

The foreground was actually flatter than it appears in Figure 2. I estimated its elevation as 12±1 meters.

With little variation I found the same elevation at the base of the hills within the study area. There was a clear pattern of gentle rise from the east-west road at 9 meters to about 12±2 meters at the base of the hills.

Note the school on the left which appears in a later photo. The roof of the school is at an elevation of about 30 meters, about the same level as the house on the right just visible through the trees. This house is sited on the terrace indicated by the profile 2 above (magenta).

Northeast Location A3

Figure 3A shows the abrupt change in slope at about 12 meters. The path leads to houses built on the terrace only one of which is visible in the preceeding photo. At the base of the path are many smooth and rounded boulders.

Northeast Location A3

Figure 3B shows the terracing behind the school, done in compliance with a national law that specifies the maximum slope permitted. The man-made terracing stops at about 30 meters because of the natural terrace.

General comments

There is some indication also of a terrace at about 30 meters which has been partly developed where the road passes through the hills and relatively undeveloped elsewhere. Part of the study area is very flat with an elevation of about 12±2 meters indicating a wide terrace at that level also.
