An Active Volcano, Mount Etna, Italy

(28 October 2002)

Mount Etna is shown erupting in this recent satellite image. NASA created this multispectral image from data collected by the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer) aboard the Aqua (EOS PM) satellite. A composite image with only visible bands displays the scene in natural color at a nominal 250 m resolution. The MODIS Rapid Response Team at NASA GSFCA supplies the full Modis Aqua image shown at the bottom of the page.
