The southwest coast and highlands of Irian Jaya are depicted in this scene which renders vegetation in red. The glaciers can be located using the lower image supplied by the United States Geological Survey and the enlarged view of part of the scene. This browse image is a reduced resolution sample of a composite image (bands 1, 2, and 4 at 79 m resolution) created from data acquired by the Multispectral Scanner (MSS) aboard an early Landsat satellite. The image was supplied by the Tropical Rainforest Information Center from its inventory of low cost data products.
